Spurgeon's Appoints First Female Chair of Governors

Spurgeon's College has appointed its first lay and female chair of governors

Spurgeons appoints first femal

She is Sarah King, a cathedral administration specialist. Sarah gained an MA in Modern History at Oxford before qualifying as a chartered accountant and embarking on a varied career in business and finance.

In 1996 she was appointed the administrator of Southwark Cathedral, and in 2005 stepped up to become the secretary of the Association of English Cathedrals, a charity which supports the work of English Anglican cathedrals.  She is also treasurer of the London Baptist Association and Chairman of the Friends of Southwark Cathedral.

Sarah said, 'I am very pleased to become chair of governors at Spurgeon's, a theological college I respect enormously because of the high standards of the College and its pivotal role in serving Baptist and evangelical churches in London and the UK.

'My vision for my time in office is to work with the governors and staff to see all aspects of the College's life strengthened, so that its work will continue to be carried out to the highest standard.'

Dr Nigel Wright, principal of Spurgeon's College, said, 'The entire College is delighted to have secured the services of Sarah, who is one of the more experienced cathedral administrators in the UK.

'Her knowledge and expertise will be most valuable as we seek to rise to the many challenges faced by both Spurgeon's and every other UK theological college in the months and years ahead, and I very much look forward to working with her as we grapple with those issues.'
